Eagles Draft 2014: Five Prospects in Each Round to Watch For | Eagles Addict

The 2014 NFL Draft is almost here so I’ve put together a list of prospects that could interest the Eagles in each round.  I suppose you can say it’s somewhat my version of a “big board” and includes both players I prefer as well as who I think the Eagles would like.

Ideally, that would be one in the same, but the Eagles don’t always do what I tell them! Damn kids, never listen!  Anyway…

For example, unless Sammy Watkins or Mike Evans falls to 22, I do not endorse taking a Wide Receiver in Round 1.  Unlike many others, I am not enamored enough with Brandin Cooks, Odell Beckham, Marqise Lee, Kelvin Benjamin or Cody Latimer to take them at 22.

However, there is a strong sentiment that they will take one of those players.  If they do, all I’ll be able to say is that I’ll have to trust Chip Kelly’s judgement and hope he’s right.  But, if they take one of them over Anthony Barr, I’d be furious!

The funny thing is, without a few of those receivers, I’d have a hard time finding five prospects in Round 1 that I think will either be there at 22, or would actually be “worth” taking at 22.  As it is, I’ve included one prospect they’d likely have to trade up for.

Here it goes…

Round 1

1. OLB Anthony Barr (I’m certain he is on the Eagles’ big board, but will require a trade up)

2. CB Kyle Fuller (It’ll be interesting to see if they’d choose him over one of the receivers)

3. ILB C.J. Mosely (This is more of my preference given the options to choose from)

4. WR Odell Beckham (Could be the most likely one they prefer of the WRs)

5. WR Marqise Lee (Personally not interested, but Eagles could very well be)

Round 2

1. OLB Marcus Smith

2. DE/OLB Trent Murphy

3. OLB Jeremiah Attaochu

4. WR Cody Latimer

5. WR Jordan Matthews

Round 3

1. LB Christian Jones

2. DE/OLB Will Clarke

3. OG Trai Turner

4. LB Jordan Tripp

5. WR Jarvis Landry

Round 4

1. WR Brandon Coleman

2. WR Jared Abbrederis

3. RB De’Anthony Thomas

4. OG Spencer Long

5. ILB Jordan Zumwalt

Round 5

1. WR Jeff Janis

2. DE Taylor Hart

3. CB Aaron Colvin

4. CB Dontae Johnson

5. OT Laurent Duvernay-Tardif

Round 7

1. OL Kevin Graf

2. DL Shamar Stephen

3. OLB Ronald Powell

4. TE Colt Lyerla

5. RB James Wilder

One quick caveat…

There are a few top-end players that I think will most likely be drafted in between where the Eagles pick in Rounds 1 and 2.  Should any of these players be on the board at pick 54, they could be serious contenders…

S Deone Bucannon, TE Austin Sefarian-Jenkins, RB Bishop Sankey, WR Kelvin Benjamin

While the players could be different from above, one thing I’m certain of is that the Eagles will come out of this draft with an Outside Linebacker, Wide Receiver and an Offensive Lineman.

At  least one  of each.

There could be value picks at Tight End, Running Back and yes, Quarterback, in any given round.  I certainly can’t rule that out even though these are the three positions of least need for the Eagles.

If they end up trading up, down or both during the draft, obviously that changes everything.  The above is based on them picking at their current slot in each round and weighing their needs and value at each slot.
