As Jeff McLane is reporting from training camp, Mike Patterson dropped on the field and went into convulsions.
McLane also reported that many players were visibly upset and concerned about their teammate. Danny Watkins, with his experience as a fireman, stepped in and started taking control of the situation as the ambulance arrived.
The causes of the convulsions, which can also be construed as seizures, are various. We do not yet know the underlying cause for Patterson’s “convulsions” (or seizures).
According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine/National Institutes of Health, some common causes are fever, epilepsy, brain injury, low blood sugar, and alcohol/drug withdrawal.
Since practices barely were under way, I initially do no think this was dehydration related but that is merely a guess on my part.
Let’s hope this doesn’t turn out to be anything serious. We’re all hoping for the best for Mike Patterson. He’s a great guy and good player.
More to come on this matter as soon as more information is made available.
**Update as of 10:35am: Mike Patterson “alert and stable” as per Jeff McLane. Good to hear!
