The Philadelphia Eagles are finally bringing in an offensive lineman for a pre-draft visit. Brandon Fusco, of little known Slippery Rock University, will be stopping by to chat with the Eagles’ brass in the near future.
Fusco, 6′ 4″ 306lbs, was the starting center for the Rockets during the past 4 seasons. In 2010 he won the Gene Upshaw Division II Lineman Of The Year Award and was one of SRU’s rare Senior Bowl invites. Fusco is generally considered to be the 4th ranked center in this year’s draft and projects as a 5th round pick. He has only played center in college so therefore he has not shown the versatility that the Eagles usually covet. Plus, Andy Reid has never drafted a college center so it would be somewhat of a surprise if he were to draft Fusco. Although with the renowned Howard Mudd now in the fold maybe he will have an influence on any OL selections.
Will USC OT Tyron Smith be visiting with the Eagles? In this tidbit from Aaron Wilson at NFP, he notes that Smith will be visiting several teams including Dallas and Washington. He then goes on to say that “Smith also has a visit with another undisclosed NFC East team“. Well, that only leaves the Eagles and Giants so there is a 50/50 shot at this point that Smith is coming in. This would be another interesting visit since he is generally rated as the #1 OT prospect and should be long gone by the Eagles’ pick at #23. But it wouldn’t be out of the ordinary for how the Eagles operate as evidenced by last year when they brought in the highly regarded Eric Berry for a visit and he was projected to go in the top 5 (and did).
I’m keeping close tabs on 1st round prospects that the Eagles bring in for a visit. I am going to keep banging my drum that says if they bring in a 1st round caliber player, you can forget about the Eagles actually drafting that player…at least in the 1st round.
Draft scratch list:
CB Jimmy Smith
DT Stephen Paea
DT Mohammad Wilkerson
OT Tyron Smith???
