Eagles Sign LB Rashad Jeanty | Eagles Addict
The Eagles' new Blue Light Special

I was on sale at Kmart!

Another blue light special?  The Eagles have signed formal Bengal LB Rashad Jeanty to a 1 year deal.  He missed the 2010 season after suffering complications following a fractured fibula he sustained in a playoff game at the end of the 2009 season.  For more on his ordeal you can click here.  He played for the Bengals for 4 years and accumulated 215 tackles, 5 passes defensed, and 5 forced fumbles.  Not exactly the playmaker but at 6′ 2″, 245 lbs, he is being viewed as a special teamer and depth at LB, most likely at the SAM position.  In 2008 he won the Ed Block Courage award as voted by his teammates.

I remember that season right before the injury, he was getting a lot of good press…saw him play a few times on TV feeds of the Ravens games from Baltimore…then the injury. I don’t know, I hate to say Jeanty’s just a “camp body” to take reps and give the younger guys competition before he gets released…because I don’t really know that to be the case. It just seems we bring in these free agent rehab cases a lot, and not much comes of it in the end. Maybe Jeanty will break on through and prove me wrong. Sorry for the use of the word “break”, Dave…and Rashad!

    Hey Tom,
I see it as they brought him in for competition and possibly provide experienced depth at LB. If his leg checks out ok, he could be a guy that could step in and play if there was an injury. But, I don’t see him as winning a starting job. I think his odds of making the team are 50/50, at best. Alot will depend on injuries and whom else they sign or draft.

Yep, it is the Eagles’ M.O. to bring in injured players…aka, “blue light specials” because they can get them on the cheap. Low financial risk, high reward on the field.
