Blount, Jeffery and Smith to Show Their Stuff on Sunday | Eagles Addict

Is this what Philadelphia has been waiting for? The team has seen an influx of talent in recent times, so one assumes that the powers that be saw the weaknesses in the team’s armor and they have taken steps to plug all the holes.

Otherwise, there is little point in bringing so many notable players into the team just to pass the time. You expect the betting odds for all 2017 Eagles games to experience a boost with athletes like LeGarrette Blount, Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith on the roster.

All three athletes have very impressive resumes. But resumes only prove what you did in the past. They say nothing about what you will do in the future. Blount and his ilk need to make their presence on the field felt because that is where it counts the most.

The Eagles have clearly been working hard to transform their offense, and it can be argued that they made effective use of the offseason. Everyone agrees that Carson Wentz needs better talent surrounding him and that is exactly what the Eagles have done.

They have placed notable names at skilled positions. But the veterans in question need to show that they are not just there to pass time. Jeremy Maclin was the last 1000-yard receiver the Eagles had.

If Torrey Smith can replicate Maclin’s performance, the Eagles stand to make quick gains. Smith came into the fold with Ashlon Jeffery from free agency, joining Shelton Gibson, Mack Hollins, and Marcus Johnson.

The lot of them need to make a splash on Sunday. Philadelphia will be playing Washington. Jeffery has the right attitude. He is pretty excited to make his debut. That is the sort of mindset you want from your legitimate Number One receiver.

The athlete’ stats from his time in Chicago are strong. He had 80 catches and 1,100 yards receiving over a period of two seasons. If he maintains his health, he will become an asset over the long haul.

Ashlon will be there to give the quarterback support. He needs to become the sort of athlete that is always open, ready to receive and to score whenever the situation arises. Offensive coordinator Franck Reich hopes that Ashlon grows to fill that role.

He needs to inject confidence back into the Eagles’ offensive unit. Reich believes that if Ashlon can become that all-important support, the team could transform as a whole. Ahslon was acquired because everyone believes he brings exactly what Reich wants to the table.

With Smith, you expect him to stretch defenses. The athlete was part of the Ravens team that took the Super Bowl home five years ago. He continued to hone his skills in San Francisco.

Smith will let Wentz unleash his arm strength.

Blount doesn’t need an introduction. He has two Super Bowl rings to his name. The previous season saw the athlete lead the NFL with 18 touchdowns rushing. No one can deny the fact that he will be a valuable addition to the team. Working with Darren Sproles and Wendell Smallwood, Blunt will boost the team’s ground game.

Sunday will prove whether or not these veterans have what it takes to take the Eagles to the next level.
