Eagles Draft 2014: Day 2 Prospects and Targets | Eagles Addict
Cody Latimer

The Eagles now hold three picks on Day 2 of the 2014 NFL Draft (54, 83 and 86) thanks to last night’s trade with Cleveland.  After addressing the Outside Linebacker position with Marcus Smith, who could be of interest tonight?

In Round 2, I think their top target now is a Wide Receiver.  If one of their top two guys are there at 54, he’ll be the pick.

The Eagles have shown interest in numerous receivers prior to the draft.  Here is how I think they will have the receivers likely to be drafted in Round 2 ranked on their board…

1. Cody Latimer (top target now)

2. Jordan Matthews (next target after Latimer)

3. Allen Robinson

4. Marqise Lee

5. Davante Adams

6. Donte Moncrief

To be perfectly clear, yes, I think they would take those three over Lee.

However, if Latimer and Matthews are both gone before pick 54, I could see them going in a different direction.  I’m not sure they’ll have Robinson, Lee, Moncrief and Adams ranked ahead of potential players at other positions.

The board will clearly dictate what direction they go in.

Other top contenders for their second round pick…

Double-up at OLB:  Jeremiah Attaochu, Trent Murphy or Kyle Van Noy

Offensive Line: Xavier Su’a-Filo, Trai Turner, Marcus Martin

Tight End: Austin Sefarian-Jenkins

Running Back: Bishop Sankey, Tre Mason

Cornerback: Stanley Jean-Baptiste

Round 3 targets in addition to if any of the above should fall…

Linebacker (OLB or ILB): Christian Jones (could be off their board after failed drug test), Jordan Tripp, Will Clarke

Wide Receiver: Brandon Coleman (not sure he lasts until our pick in Round 4), Jared Abbrederis, Jarvis Landry, Kevin Norwood, Martavis Bryant

Offensive Line: Brandon Thomas, Dakota Dozier

Cornerback: Jaylen Watkins

Safety: Brock Vereen

I can see the Eagles taking a second-straight OLB in the second round if one of those guys is there and Latimer and Matthews are off the board.  The biggest wildcard on Day 2 is whether or not they take a Running Back or Tight End.

I’m not as convinced they’ll take a Defensive Back tonight, but it will depend on how the rest of the draft unfolds.

I suspect they’ll address the DL, but most likely not until Day 3.

If I was a gambling man, I’d say the positions with the best chances of being addressed tonight are, in order, WR, LB, OL, and RB.

It’s going to be interesting, that’s for sure!

Huff..wow..I like matthews so far, thats it

    • Yeah, they’re taking prospects a little early it seems…Smith then Huff. They’re getting good value on their trade downs, just wish they’d get better value at their actual selection. I’m fairly sure Huff would have been on the board today, and they have the first pick

Sweet..yeah, smith is growing on me more too..I respect b davis’ s opinion as much as any and im sure he had alot of input there..hes prolly gonna be a little overmatched early on but I think he may be good in a year or two…I swear ozzie newsome kills me..ever6 season he takes exactly who I want.lol!! I hope ravens offer a draft “lottery” someday, similar to the one the rams did with their schedule.:)..mosley, jernigan and t brooks may have all started for us..I think dt is a weakness jernigan would have filled beautifully and believe t brooks was best safety in the draft…rams taking lamarcus joyner 1 pick before us and greg reid in offseason hurts..

Christian jones?? I tell you free agent id look at dan hicks from fsu as olb/de hybrid..that kid was superb when given the opportunity just moved from defense to offense and back and showed crazy athleticism….jaccobi mcdaniel is a peko type as well..he could fall and be adequate player at very least

    • I like Jones and think he’d be a great fit. Only problem is if he’s off the Eagles’ board because of the failed drug test. I like Jordan Tripp too and think he could be a target. Either way, I want them to add another linebacker…either nside or outside or one that is versatile for both (Jones).

I also like telvin smith..he may be kam chancellor safety type, if hes not big enough for lb..hes too good not to play somewhere..great instincts and speed..id mirror lebeaus philosophy with shazier pick at mlb…telvin is as good as shazier..and I like both
