Philadelphia Eagles Roster Cuts: Nine More to Come Today | Eagles Addict

By 6:00pm EST, Chip Kelly and the Philadelphia Eagles have to cut nine players to get down to the 53-man roster limit.  Yesterday they released 12 and placed one on the injured reserve list.

Here are the 12 released on Friday:

  • LB Everette Brown
  • DT Antonio Dixon
  • QB Dennis Dixon
  • DE David King
  • QB G.J. Kinne
  • OL Matt Kopa
  • CB Trevard Lindley
  • WR Ifeanyi Momah
  • WR Will Murphy
  • OL Dallas Reynolds
  • LB Adrian Robinson
  • OL Matt Tennant

DE Joe Kruger was the guy placed on IR.

No real surprises there.  However, the remaining decisions will be tougher.  In looking at the 62 players still on the roster, here is my guess at the nine players who could be handed their pink slips today…

  • TE/FB Emil Igwenagu
  • LB Casey Matthews
  • LB Travis Long
  • RB Matthew Tucker
  • S David Sims
  • WR Jeff Maehl
  • WR Russell Shepard
  • G Julian Vandervelde
  • G Danny Watkins

Matthews has certainly been out-played by Acho and Knott for a backup ILB position.  And so much for the fireman…Watkins just hasn’t done enough to stick around over a few players that the coaching staff seems to higher on.  I also like Greg Salas making it over Shepard.

With that said, this will almost certainly not be how this ultimately plays out.

Both Curtis Marsh and Brandon Hughes have a broken hand so the coaching staff will need to decide if either or both of them is worth keeping a roster spot for.  So, it’s possible that someone like Watkins or Vandervelde stays while Hughes or Marsh gets an injury settlement.

It’s also a good possibility that the Eagles will be scouring the waiver wire so they’re initial 53-man roster may only last about 24 hours before they claim someone and waive another.
