Philadelphia Eagles An Intriguing 8-Point Underdog Against Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Philadelphia Eagles continued to fade into the NFL abyss with an eighth-straight loss Monday night to the Dallas Cowboys. Next up is a road trip to take on the playoff-hungry Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6-6), who are a heavy 8-point favorite according to the Week 14 NFL odds.
The Eagles (3-9) were once again done in by turnovers and other miscues in their loss to the Cowboys. With that said, there were some signs of optimism for Philadelphia backers. Rookie Nick Foles showed signs of being the real deal at quarterback and running back Bryce Brown also looked good, with the exception of another inexcusable fumble in the fourth quarter.
That lack of ball security is something that will hopefully be corrected with additional professional experience for the young running back.
Tampa Bay has dropped its last two games to lose its grip on an NFC playoff berth. They fell 31-21 to the Denver Broncos as 9.5-point road underdogs Sunday. Despite the straight-up loss, the decision improved the Bucs’ to 9-2-1 against the spread this season.
Foles completed 22 of 34 for 251 yards and a touchdown against the Cowboys while making his third career start. Fellow rookie Brown scampered for 169 yards and two touchdowns on 24 carries, but a fourth-quarter turnover returned for a touchdown proved a dagger to the Eagles’ chances. That was the third key turnover in two games for Brown, who before replacing LeSean McCoy, hadn’t started a game since high school.
Philadelphia is a team with little to play for and those are teams that often prove dangerous as playoff-spoilers in the waning weeks. This is almost a “must-win” for the Bucs to stay in the wild-card race as well, so taking the points may be a smart-play in this spot.
