For Eagles, Foles Not the Answer Either
There’s only so many things that a head coach can change about his team before he has to go, and the Philadelphia Eagles look like they’ve hit that point. The men from the City of Brotherly Love have lost six games in a row and now have failed to cover five in a row.
They have changed defensive coordinators and have changed quarterbacks. There’s just nothing left to change going into this week’s game against the Carolina Panthers.
So that means that Head Coach Andy Reid, a dead man walking right now, is going to have to trot QB Nick Foles out there on Monday Night Football regardless of whether he wants to or not. The fans in Philadelphia were clamoring for Foles to be starting over QB Michael Vick a few weeks ago, but now that Vick is hurt, Foles has no choice but to be under center.
It looks as though Reid knew what he was talking about. Foles threw for 204 yards and two picks without getting a TD on the board against the Washington Redskins, who had allowed at least 21 points in every previous game this year.
As far as that defense which changed coordinators? That unit allowed QB Robert Griffin III to complete 14-of-15 passing for 200 yards with four TDs and no picks. RB Alfred Morris and RG3 also combined to rush for 160 yards on the ground. After a frustrating season to date, the trio of QB Cam Newton, RB Jonathan Stewart, and RB DeAngelo Williams have to be salivating to be going against this defense on Monday.
Philadelphia opened up this week at -2 ½ on the NFL odds. About the only good news for the Eagles this week is that they’ve won and covered three in a row in this series against the Panthers.
Unfortunately for Reid, even that trend may stop given how his team has been playing.
