Reid Still On the Sinking Michael Vick

By SBRForum.com

With just four minutes left in Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions, the Philadelphia Eagles had to feel as though they were going to beat the NFL odds and move to 4-2 going into their bye week. Instead, disaster struck, the Lions rolled off the final 10 points of regulation and ultimately won it on a 45-yard field goal at the death in overtime.

Philly is off in Week 7, and it has to wonder whether it is even going to be able to stick around in the playoff race this year. The team has a brutal stretch of games coming up, the first of which is against the undefeated Atlanta Falcons in Week 8. As long as all goes as scheduled, the game will pit QB Michael Vick against his old team.

That is, of course, if Head Coach Andy Reid decides that he is going to keep Vick as his starting quarterback.

If there were ever a time to make a change, now would be that time. Vick has turned the ball over a whopping 13 times this year, and he is leading the league’s 31st ranked scoring offense. The team has just 10 offensive touchdowns over the course of the first six games of the campaign, and there were several opportunities that were left on the doorstep thanks to Vick’s blunders.

The former Falcon is averaging just 7.1 yards per pass attempt, and he isn’t making up for it with his legs either. Vick is only averaging 34.2 rushing yards per game. He is though, averaging 272.0 passing yards per game.

More bad news for the Eagles? The Falcons have forced three Vick turnovers over the course of the two games that they have played against him.

However, Philadelphia has averaged 31.0 points per game with Vick under center against the Falcons, though both home teams have won and covered in each of the two games.
