NFL Preseason Preview: Eagles Focused On Monday Night Visit To New England
The Philadelphia Eagles will visit the New England Patriots on Monday Night Football this week. Although it’s only the second week of the preseason, expect them to treat this like their third preseason game and hold the starters in a little longer than normal.
Next week, the Eagles will face the Cleveland Browns, which just so happens to be the team that the Eagles are facing in Week 1 of the regular season. That means they won’t want to show them very much.

The Eagles are a veteran team with a lot of consistency from last year’s roster, so they don’t have a lot to prove in preseason games. Many people making their preseason NFL picks expect the Eagles to be one of the NFC’s best Super Bowl contenders but even so, they’ve got a little bit of fine-tuning to do on Monday night.
There’s a key battle happening on the offensive line as the team is trying to figure out who to start at left tackle. With All-Pro left tackle Jason Peters out of the season, Demetress Bell was signed to fill the role. But he’s underwhelmed and fifth-year veteran King Dunlap has moved into the first-string role.
Both players will get a chance to showcase their abilities on Monday night.
With the Eagles treating this contest like they normally treat the third preseason game, quarterback Michael Vick is expected to play into the second half. The Patriots are considered one of the frontrunners for a Super Bowl so the Eagles will be looking to measure themselves up with some premier competition.
Both Dunlap and Bell will have to make sure that nobody gets too close to Vick. If Bell continues to struggle, expect Dunlap to open the season as the team’s starting left tackle.
The Patriots are listed as a one-point favorite on the after winning their preseason opener 7-6 versus New Orleans.
