NFL preseason: Eagles vs. Jets preview
The Eagles get the pleasure of facing a Jets team that hasn’t scored a touchdown the entire preseason for their final exhibition tune-up. Even though starters will get very little time, if any, that is a nice sight to see for Andy Reid and the rest of the coaching staff.
They are going to have to cut another 22 players from the roster by Friday night. Either way, it’s one last look at what the Eagles will look like for the NFL odds and so for the 2012.
Philadelphia has had a nice preseason, as they are 3-0 heading into almost a certain win in New York. They have won their last two-preseason games by double figures, but the final score of these things don’t matter too much.
The Eagles don’t have it easy coming out of the gate. They have tough home games against the Ravens, Giants and Lions in Weeks 2, 4 and 6 respectively, and road games against the Browns, Cardinals and Steelers in between those.
The big things for the Eagles will be getting healthy, especially Michael Vick. For Vick it’s staying healthy as well. Vick left the preseason game against Patriots after taking a hard shot to the ribs. Luckily, they were just bruised and not broken.
Both Vick and the team claim he’ll be ready for the season opener, but although common in this preseason, a big time player like Vick sitting out for precautionary reasons is still cause for concern, especially considering his history with injuries.
I would like to see the offensive line and a few other offensive and defensive starters get a few reps in this game, but I don’t think the Eagles will risk it. They are going to use this game against the Jets to help finalize their roster for the regular season.
