The Philadelphia Eagles have announced they’ve re-signed DT Derek Landri to a one year deal. This is great news as Landri was a productive player in a limited amount of snaps last season.
Landri, a former 5th round draft pick by the Jaguars in 2007, has been a journyman over his five-year career so far. He stuck with the Jags until 2009, when he was waived in December and then claimed by Carolina.
He stayed with the Panthers until after the 2010 season and became an unrestricted free agent. He first signed with the Eagles last summer but didn’t make the final cuts. However, after Antonio Dixon went down with a season ending injury, Landri was re-signed.
He also blocked a field goal in the final game of 2011 against Washington.
It’s hard to say if re-signing Landri will have any impact on the Eagles potentially drafting a DT this year. He’s going to be a rotational player and provide good depth. I don’t think it will rule out drafting a DT early, but it may make the Eagles more comfortable in not taking one in the first round, as many people believe they will.
This is another good move by the Eagles in an offseason full of good moves.
