The long awaited trade of Eagles backup QB Kevin Kolb has finally been consumated! No surprises though as Adam Caplan tweeted he was traded to Arizona for Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and a second-round draft pick.
Kevin Kolb also signed a deal with the Cards for five years, $63 Million, and “over $20 million guaranteed.”
Eagles fans have been awaiting this trade since the end of last season and it has long been speculated that DRC would be the main target.
For the Eagles and their fans, this is as good of deal as could be expected. We received a talented and promising young cornerback (25 years old, one pro bowl in three years in league) plus a premium pick in next year’s draft.
However, after glancing at the Arizona Cardinals message board, there seems to be a lot of mixed emotions from their fans. Some feel that the Cards gave up way too much in the trade while others are happy to finally have a franchise QB.
I’m sure there is a contingent of Eagles fans who aren’t happy about trading Kolb away. The main reason being that he is a great security net for Michael Vick.
But we all knew how this story was going to end. Andy Reid did the right thing by Kolb in allowing him to walk into a good opportunity out there in the desert. He’ll be surrounded with some talent and given a good chance to succeed.
So to recap today so far, the Eagles have now added a pro bowl level cornerback and a pro bowl defensive end (Jason Babin). It seems their defense is starting to shape up!
I wish Kolb good luck in Arizona. Wouldn’t it be something if the Eagles and Cardinals met in the playoffs? Talk about drama.
