Casey, the younger brother of Green Bay star LB Clay Mathews, is scheduled to meet with the Eagles this Thursday and Friday according to Aaron Wilson at National Football Post.
Casey Mathews, 6′ 1″ 231 lbs, was a 4 year starter at linebacker for Oregon. Last season he compiled 79 tackles, 9 TFL’s (tackles for a loss), and 3 INT’s. He is considered to be a mid-round draft pick by most scouts. Many teams will be intrigued with him because of his amazing bloodlines (Bruce, Clay Sr., Clay Jr., Clay III all were excellent football players).
Casey has a good reputation for being very physical and having a high football IQ. His downside is that he’s a bit small and his speed is only average (had a 4.78 time in the 40 on his pro day). However, I could certainly see the Eagles taking a chance on him with one of their 4th round picks. He probably won’t take the NFL by storm but if he’s half as good as his brother, father, and uncle he’ll at least carve out a niche as an excellent depth and special teams player.
